Sour Punch: Hitting the Sweet Spot
If you’re familiar with American candy, you’ll probably be familiar with the Sour Punch range. Their sweet-yet-sour treats were one of the first entries into the American sour sweets market when they were launched by the American Licorice Company in 1990. First launching with their Straws, created by Noah Nawaz, the fruit flavoured liquorice tubes had a signature sweet and sour sugar coating which won them plenty of admirers.
The fruity liquorice comes from good stock, as the American Licorice Company are behind the iconic Red Vines! With a similar texture to their liquorice cousins, the sour straws are also lactose-free, whilst their coating adds a tart kick.
They certainly aren’t as severe as the sourest candies on the market, which is definitely part of their charm! Sour Punch Straws are delicious testament to the fact that sour sweets don’t have to be extreme to be enjoyable. Striking a balance of fruity and sour flavours, everything in the Sour Punch range can be enjoyed from start to finish.
Initially available in six fruity flavours, the Sour Punch Straws were a big hit. More flavours and assortments have followed as the brand have applied their magic formula to a wider range of sweets over the years. The Sour Punch range now has more options than ever, with the Bites proving particularly popular. These give the same texture and taste as the iconic Straws, but in bite-sized pieces!
